Kenya School of Law Hiring Assistant Director – Advocates Training Programme (ATP)

Kenya School of Law (KSL), the country’s premier institution for professional legal training, is recruiting an Assistant Director for the Advocates Training Programme (ATP). This full-time leadership position offers a chance to guide and enhance one of Kenya’s most respected legal education programs.

Reporting to the Director/CEO, the Assistant Director will ensure effective delivery, innovation, and strategic alignment of the ATP, which prepares students for admission to the bar.


Role Overview

The Assistant Director will:

  • Develop strategies, policies, and operational frameworks that promote excellence in the ATP.

  • Plan and manage the academic calendar, ensuring timely delivery of classes, exams, and assessments.

  • Work with senior management to market KSL’s training programmes and strengthen its academic reputation.

  • Lead departmental budgeting and financial oversight.

  • Maintain academic quality assurance and review curricula to address evolving legal market demands.

  • Supervise and mentor staff, conduct performance appraisals, and foster professional growth.

  • Oversee student discipline, examination moderation, and oral assessments.

  • Prepare and present departmental reports to management.


Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates should possess:

  • LL.B and LL.M degrees from accredited universities.

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Law from KSL.

  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya status with a current practicing certificate.

  • At least 10 years of post-admission experience, with 5 in a management capacity.

  • Membership in Law Society of Kenya (good standing).

  • Leadership, research, and training experience in legal education.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and negotiation skills.

  • Completion of a certified management course (minimum 4 weeks).

  • Compliance with Chapter Six integrity requirements.
