Mercy Corps is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join its team as a Digital Payments Coordinator in Nairobi. This role is central to advancing innovative digital payment solutions that support smallholder farmers and underserved communities across Africa.
The Digital Payments Coordinator will provide hands-on technical assistance to ecosystem partners, including banks, fintech companies, mobile money providers, and agri-tech firms. The role involves supporting the design and scaling of digital financial services while ensuring solutions are climate-smart, gender-responsive, and inclusive of youth.
Beyond technical advisory work, the role plays a strategic part in ecosystem engagement. You will build and maintain relationships with regulators, donors, and industry actors, identifying opportunities for partnerships that expand access to finance and technology. Participation in industry forums and learning events will allow you to contribute to shaping Africa’s digital payments landscape.
The position also includes responsibility for program reporting and learning. You will support MERAL activities by tracking performance metrics, ensuring compliance with Mercy Corps’ market-driven programming approach, and contributing to research, publications, and learning events.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Technology, or related field

5–7 years’ experience in digital finance or fintech, with strong exposure to African markets

Demonstrated experience scaling digital financial services in rural or emerging markets

Knowledge of payment systems, agent networks, and value chains

Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
