The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced a vacancy for a Programme Officer – Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) based in Nairobi. This position is ideal for professionals with experience in migration policy, border management, and international development programming.
Position Summary
The Programme Officer will play a central role in coordinating IOM’s IBG initiatives, supporting policy development, capacity building, and partnerships aimed at strengthening migration governance at national and regional levels.
Main Duties

Manage and coordinate the implementation of IBG projects to ensure effectiveness, coherence, and compliance with donor requirements

Provide substantive technical input into policy and operational tools related to immigration and border governance

Advise Country and Regional Offices on emerging migration trends and donor priorities

Supervise programme staff and support institutional capacity development initiatives

Coordinate training and technical assistance on document security, biometrics, identity management, readmission, and passenger information systems
-
Liaise with government institutions and stakeholders to resolve implementation challenges
-
Oversee the production of training materials and public information resources
-
Build partnerships with UN agencies, government institutions, and humanitarian actors

Support implementation of the Global Compact for Migration through the UN Network on Migration
-
Undertake duty travel as required
Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree in International Studies, Political Science, Public Administration, or related field with 5 years of experience, or

Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of relevant professional experience

Proven experience in programme coordination, migration governance, or border management
-
Strong organizational, reporting, and stakeholder coordination skills
