PHR is hiring a Senior Accountant to join its Nairobi office, supporting both U.S. and Kenya-based financial operations. This is a full-time role designed for detail-oriented professionals ready to make an impact within the humanitarian sector.

What the Role Involves

The Senior Accountant will take a leading role in managing audits, reconciling accounts, and maintaining compliance with U.S. nonprofit accounting standards. You’ll work hand-in-hand with PHR’s U.S. Controller and ensure all financial processes align with both local and international regulations.

Daily tasks will include:

  • Overseeing payroll, benefits, and investment transactions.

  • Processing invoices and payments through Bill.com and maintaining reconciliations.

  • Managing audits for both Kenya and U.S. entities.

  • Preparing audit schedules and ensuring compliance with Form 1099 and 990 requirements.

  • Updating accounting systems like Sage Intacct and training team members on new financial procedures.

Who Should Apply

You’re the ideal candidate if you have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • At least 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.

  • In-depth understanding of U.S. GAAP and nonprofit reporting standards.

  • Expertise in Sage Intacct, Bill.com, and Spend and Expense systems.

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Prior experience handling audits for U.S. and Kenya-based organizations.
